Why do women have to be sex objects to make a commercials?

Danika Patrick was the only women to win the Indy Car Series. She is an amazing race car driver that is a spokesperson for GoDaddy. com. She does provocative commercials for her sponsor GoDaddy.com. In the United States of America there is a cultural emphasis on "cosmetic fitness" for women. Patrick has to "look right" or wear the "right clothes" to fit in she cannot just be an amazing athlete. I dislike how Danika Patrick did shower scenes and sold her body for the commercials. I think Danika Patrick is a role model for young women. However when she did the commercials it showed young women to get noticed you need to show that you can be sexy.
I believe Danika Patrick is a strong women that did not need to exploit her body because it just reinforces people to believe that women are just sex objects. I know it was her sponsor but there was definitely a line crossed. Until gender stereotypes and the media insignias changes full gender equity will not be achieved.

I completely agree with Avery. Danika Patrick should embrace the fact that she is the only women to win the Indy Car Series by posing in a less provocative way. If anything, Patrick should set an example for all the young women and put a message out with the commercials that it is okay to be strong and powerful as a woman. For example, on ESPN The Magazine Body Issue, features 22 athletes posing nude but sending out a message to women that "strong is the new sexy". Some of these athletes include: professional snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler, soccer goalie, Hope Solo, and captain of the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team, Alicia Sacramone, which all agreed that "it's okay to have muscles", "when playing a sport you don't think about your body but the way you perform", "noticing a connection between my body and my accomplishments", and "my body is shaped and toned... I feel like I have a woman's physique". These are all important messages to women out there playing sports and should not feel discouraged by their muscular physique. Strong IS the new sexy and female athletes should not feel belittled by false judgements made by people who don't know what it takes to earn a body that shows empowerment and strength.
